Is it possible to lose fat while building muscle.
I know the basics principles of losing bady fat- exercise and healthy diet etc, but I've also read that to build muscle you need to be taking in more calories than your body needs.
I'm not trying to lose weight (I know muscle will make me heavier) but I would like to look slimer but also have a more toned muscular body. Is it possible to do both things at once and if so can anyone recommend a good work out for both and diet please? I have a multigym and running machine if that helps.
Thanks Everyone
But the one thing you're forgetting is your bicycle! I just came in from a 16-mile bike ride which, at 65, is not too bad. It tones every muscle in your body. It works out your cardiovascular system. It makes your legs like iron and it strengthens all your stomach and abdominal muscles.

I have ridden a bicycle all my life. I have a 12-speed Fuji touring bike and everyone here in South Portland knows me. I strongly recommend you pump up those tires and go out for a ride at least four times a week and watch what happens to you. You will also enjoy the rides. Guaranteed.
Sent with positive energies from Chris in South Portland, Maine, U.S.A. I am 65 as I mentioned, and I owe my excellent health to riding a bicycle. Who woulda thunk it? You take good care, now, and the main reason I suggest the bicycle is because it is not something which will bore you to tears inside a house. Chris!
P.S.: And after you have done the bicycle thing for a year or so, the next thing I have up my sleeve for you is kayaking. That will totally rebuild your entire upper body.

Try a home workout program which will allow you to tone up your body and lose execss fat. You wont have to buy loads of expensive equipment if it is designed specifically as a home workout.
You do need to eat correctly to build decent muscles. If you only eat fat then you are not going to build muscles. Muscles are made from protein so you do have to eat plenty of protein. Consider taking whey protein powders to help increase results.
